Introduction:-
The Madrid International plan of Action on Aging, 2002, states among other things that the elders would have Active Economic, Political, Cultural and Social rights. India is a signatory to the same but the aged have not benefited any more than they were 5 years ago.
Keeping this in mind, HelpAge India has initiated this Elder for elders Foundation leaving behind community- Based organization and structure right from the village level to a nation level body. “Elder’s for Elders Federation”, it is now a model for the elders care and productive ageing. This foundation is the Worlds first organization. Formed by the elders working for the elders towards productive and healthy aging to ensure that the rights and entitlements of the elderly as promised by the Madrid International plan of Action on Aging, 2005 are realized.
Nature of Organization is purely elders concerned, it is not based any regisious, political, caste and gender.
EfEF Concept- and Federation structure
Elders for Elders Foundation (trust by the elderly for the elderly towards productive and healthy aging) is the apex body of the project Level Federations (PLFs), District level Federations (DLFs) of elders Self Help Groups (ESHGs) and registered under the Indian Trusts Act, 1882, with two representatives of each of the PLF & DLF coming together as the founder trustees. Aims
To promote, support and sustain grassroots Elders Self Help Groups.
To explore the available resources for the benefit of elders including,
1. Micro credit
2. Micro Finance activities.
To further the cause of productive and healthy aging. Elders for Elders Foundation
Objectives of the Trust:
- To Promote, support and sustain grassroots Elders Self Help Groups (ESHGs), their higher order federations,
as a co-operative action for furtherance of sustenance and sustainable livelihoods.
- To explore the available resources for the benefit of elders are including health, micro-credit and micro-finance
initiatives to further the cause of productive and health ageing.
- To undertake disasters and emergency preparedness and risk reduction plans, programmes and projects
with special emphasis on the elderly.
- To actively support the genuine community development initiatives, projects and organizations of the
elderly and to undertake all activities charitable in nature directly of indirectly.
- To engage the services of extension workers and consultants directly or through suitable agencies
and/or member federations to assist the elders in a)carrying out their livelihood activities either
independently or collectively, b)healthy ageing through provisioning for medical consultations/services/special
medical camps, orthopedic aids, IOL surgeries and such other allied services, from time to time.
- To advocate, lobby and be the spokes person/ pressure group forum of the elders or their associations/groups,
and their higher order federations for achievement

- Beneficiaries’ details. Elders Self Help group (ESHGs) is
- a group of 10-20 elders, aimed at the socio-economic and psychological upliftment of the working elders.
We have 412 ESHGs and Community Based Elder Care programme in 52 villages. ESHGs are federated
at Village Level and District level. About 5900 elders are covered under the ESHGs programme directly.

Activity carried out so far.
• Supporting the ESHGs and VLF to take care the AAG’s

• Advancing health and well-being into oldage; and
• Ensuring enabling and supportive environments
• We have conducted Project level livilyhood workshop for all the project ares.
• Leadership Training coduted for Executive body Members (reperestative from EFE)
• The EFE is supporting Mothly provision for 460 distitude elders.
Future Activites.
1. This elders federation will be expended in other areas of tsunami.
2. Village wise livilhood activity will be strengthend.
3. Rehabiltation activites for Road side elders and elders liveing alone.
4. Communtiy based elders care will be undertaken through MPCC.
5. Strengthen the multi-stakeholder participation in a aged care.
